The founding father of American Engineering, Ronald L. Hurt, began providing consulting engineering services for Southwest Florida in 1984 as co-owner and President of Anchor Engineering Consultants; a full service civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering company with offices in Naples, Marco Island, and Fort Myers.
In 1990, the Naples and Marco Island Offices of Anchor became American Engineering under the ownership of Mr. Hurt, providing engineering and surveying services for land development, general civil, and structural projects. Mr. Hurt presently acts as senior advisor to the company.
American Engineering is currently under the present ownership of James H. Steller, who joined the company in 1998. During the past sixteen years, American Engineering has emphasized structural engineering, serving more than four thousand clients in Southwest Florida, with the majority in Naples and Collier County. Structural projects include commercial structures, office buildings, condominiums, single and multifamily homes, swimming pools, docks, seawalls and marine structures.
We currently have a professional staff of four licensed structural engineer/project managers and one engineering intern. These professionals have combined engineering experience of more than 100 years. Our Design staff also consists of four skilled drafting technicians. Ronald L. Hurt, P.E. and James H. Steller, P.E., are also certified special inspectors.
American Engineering specializes in the structural engineering of luxury residential and condominium projects in Southwest Florida. We also have a deal of experience in low-rise commercial projects. Such commercial projects include: the Pelican Bay Community Center, Bigham Jewelers, Tamiami Hyundai, Discovery Day Academy, the Chamber of Commerce Building and numerous other office and retail buildings.
Additionally, we have provided structural engineering services for hundreds of projects exceeding 10,000 sq. ft., including single family and waterfront residences, throughout Southwest Florida. Several of these custom residences exceed 30,000 sq. ft.
Having designed numerous projects to the strict and complex guidelines of the State of Florida D.E.P. requirements, we have distinguished ourselves as one of the premier structural engineering firms in Southwest Florida for these types of projects. Some of the D.E.P. requirements include the use of frangible walls, dynamic wave loading, pile supported foundations and scour considerations.
We routinely work with many of the outstanding contractors of Naples and Collier County. We are confident that having maintained these exceptional companies as longtime, repeat clients is a reflection of the quality and efficiency of the engineering services that we provide throughout the design and construction of the projects. Our goal on every project, large or small, is to provide the highest level of expertise, service and efficiency to ensure each project is a success.
